Any kind of instrument which produces a sound, is known as a musical instrument. There are many different instruments producing all kinds of sounds. Some instruments can even be dated all the way back to the origins of music.

Each individual music instrument has its own qualities. These qualities pertain to pitch, melody, range, chords, and so on. The instrument is also placed into a special category based on these qualities.

Wind instruments produce sound through a column of air. Depending on the air column’s length, the sound may vary drastically. The construction of the instrument also plays an important role in the music.

Wind instruments are further divided into Woodwind and brass instruments. Oboe, clarinet, Flute, horn, piccolo, saxophone, bassoon and mouth organ are some examples of winds instruments.

Percussion instruments are those that produce sound upon striking something. The shape, material, resonating cavity or the part struck defines the type of sound produced. Some percussion musical instruments include the snare drum, cymbals, bells, xylophone, timpani and gong chime, timpani.

String instruments are another common category of musical instruments. They produce their sound by vibration on a string, much like that of an earthquake mechanism. The tone also depends on the cavity and body size of the instrument.

There are many modern string instruments available for you to play with if you so choose. The mandolin, banjo, and guitar are even included in this group.

Pianos and keyboards are known world-wide for their amazing sound, resonance, and beauty. Depending on what you want to do with a keyboard, the options of models available for you to pick from are endless.

Any kind of instrument which produces sound through electronic measures, is known as an electronic instrument. This would include keyboards obviously.

Brass instruments have a tube of different thickness and length in which air is blown through mouth to get different musical notes. Examples of brass instruments are French horn, tuba, trumpet, and trombone.

Piano and guitar are the two most popular instruments around the world. They are easy to learn, easy to play, and can entertain anyone. The other instruments listed in this article are great, but require a very dedicated musician.
