Things to Do While In Need of an Electric Guitar Amp

It’s hard to tell whether a guitar is a good guitar or if it can be a great guitar. It all depends on how much you want to invest in your it. Usually, not many people real know how to get the best value for their cash when they are out buying a guitar and its accessories. The most important thing for me would be investing in a reliable guitar amp compared to buying just anything.

An amp defines the sound of your guitar. This is why you should prioritize buying a good amp. Before buying one of course, you should read about all the different types to see what is best for you.

There are 4 kinds of amps in general. You get different results from all these different types in terms of sound. First we have analogue amplifiers. These make use of transistors instead of their pre-amps and power amps. You’ll notice that this has a brittle but strong sound. The distortions are usually more distinguished by the same texture of tone but the quality usually varies widely. They are sturdily made and require little to no maintenance. These are also pretty cheap, which is great, if you put it against the other 3 guitar amp variations.

Next you have tube amps. Tube amps came before all the other variations of amps, which is also why these amps are based on its design. Most guitarists stay resolute to these kinds of amps because they are the first kind ever made. Tube amps have a weightier tone as opposed to analogue amps. Natural is what you can say about the sound it amplifies. You get an equal amount of power and wattage with this amp. If you want clean sounds on a separate channel from your distortions, you can have that with these kinds of amps. It’s tubes are made of glass, which is why you should bring it in for maintenance every once in a while. Every once in a while you are going to have to replace its tubes.

Now, we also have digital amps to counter analogue amps today. Modeling amps or better known as digital amps are able to copy the effects that other amps make using some pre-programmed software. It can get a bit expensive though. Comparatively, generic guitar amps are much cheaper than branded ones of course, but they still cost a lot. But this type of amp lets you experiment with all sorts of sound types, which is why investing in this is pretty cool too. The higher priced a digital amp is, the better its quality. You won’t even be able to tell the difference between a digitally rendered sound and the real thing.

Now we get to a combination of sorts, the hybrid amp. What’s great about this is that hybrids use the convenience of an analogue and also the power you get from a tube amp. One of the most popular amps would be the Marshall Valvestate. You’re getting a whole sound for less of the cost.

Now that you’ve learned about all the types of amps, you could now pick what is best for your guitar and yourself. When the time comes for you to buy an amp, don’t just jump on the first amp you lay your eyes on. The best way to go would be to bring your guitar so you can test all the possible combinations of guitar, amp and volume. Does it sound weird at low volumes? Is it keeping up on full blast? Are there any other inappropriate noises that shouldn’t be there except for the guitar’s? You are going to have this for a long time, so pick well.
