The guitar is somewhat a hardy musical instrument, however certain parts of the guitar may not look as hardy as it seems and tend to be fragile especially the tuning keys, nut, and strings. Hence, a good guitarist should know how to care for his/her guitar.
When your guitar is not in use, it should be place inside its cover. This is to protect it from water, moisture and heat. Not to forget, keep your guitar away from direct sunlight and avoid leaving it in a vehicle. For example, I keep mine by hanging my guitar on the wall.
By covering your guitar and keep it in a safe place also prevent accidents where the guitar may be damaged from a fall or hap-hazard accidents. The guitar should be treated and handled gently although its a sturdy instrument.
Having spare set of strings is a good idea, who knows if one might breaks while you are playing. Try to look for good quality strings, as they will last longer.
The guitar string should be cleaned after each use to keep it in good condition, it will sound better too. Use a soft cleaning cloth by placing it underneath each string individually and gripping it and then pull the cloth length wise of the string. This will removes sweat and dirt.
Polished your guitar regularly to maintain its shine and to remove finger prints, dust, dirt and wear from a plectrum. Always carry your guitar in an upright position when moving around.
