Fashion is something that goes on changing with the course of the time. In the past, the clothing style imitated the standard of that era. But today we have wide range of choice in fashion. As a result, we have got a distinct style of fashion in urban clothing industry called streetwear.
What does the ‘term’ streetwear mean? It is a kind of clothing style generally inspired by its surrounding lifestyle of the street. It deals with the urban themes like graffiti and encodes the culture of such surroundings into clothing fashion. Most importantly, it gives clothing a high quality.
It was about 1980s when the influence of the movement of punk spread around. Recently this has some connections with hip-hop culture. Streetwear was originated from that point of time and therefore it is compared with hip-hop culture.
Shawn Stussy was the inspirational name behind streetwear. He worked as a local surfboard shaper of Laguna Beach in California. He used his own logo for his surfboard designs and after that for the very first time he printed his logo on t-shirts. From that time onwards, streetwear genre has gone under a sea-change.
Hip-hop culture is marked by a quality of self-expression. Like hip-hop culture, streetwear shares the similar concept. Designers express their feelings through designs for garments. The moment people wear garments designed by the designers it becomes their expression.
Streetwear style of clothing has become the part of the fashion of today. It inspires the designers of today but very few could achieve the quality streetwear offers. Some items like sunglasses, bags are available in high quality.
Streetwear comprises the mixture of both modern as well as traditional outlook. One can either wear traditional suit today or can wear t-shirt the next day or can have alternative. That is why streetwear has been termed as another name for fashion.
